swimming in the ocean. carlos javier lopez went to roosevelt beach to play soccer and swim with some friends. a friend says lopez went into the water and then disappeared. the coast guard spent all night searching but didn't find him. he worked at gin wan chinese restaurant in half moon bay. the owner said she considers lopez as her own son. >> he is very, very good kid, very, very good kid. he hard-working, he schooled. he working. >> the coast guard called off that search overnight. again, they'll decide this morning whether to resume looking for lopez new this morning, in the east bay, a teenager is fighting for his life after an overnight stabbing in richmond. the suspect that slashed him is still on the loose. investigators tell us the teen was found stabbed on marina way and metro walkway just before midnight. right now, he is in critical

condition at a nearby hospital. police tell us it is too early to tell if the stabbing is gang-related. so far, investigators have not released any specific information about a possible suspect or suspects. >> south san francisco police on the lookout for a serial arsonist that started three fires on saturday night. two fires in orange memorial park and a third fire was found a few blocks away on ponderosa road in el camino real. all three fires were quickly put out and caused no damage a special forces soldier died as results of wounds in afghanistan. sergeant first class james chg s grissom was part of a special forces unit based in fort lewis,

washington. he was on his fifth deployment overseas. he graduated from mount eaton high school in hayward in 1999 and the art institute in san francisco. >> we are learning more about a deadly shooting that involved two bay area marines. the suspected gunman is a 25-year-old from pacifica, a highly decorated marine that served in iraq and afghanistan before becoming a trainer at quantico. the female victim is 19-year-old lance corporal sarah castromana from oakley in contra costa county. they say sergeant lopez also killed corporal jacob wooly. nbc reports they were involved in a love triangle. the u.s. supreme court prepares to tackle the issue of same-sex marriage this week. supporters will rally in san francisco to push for marriage

equality. starting tonight, demonstrators will gather at castro and market streets and then march to san francisco city hall for a ral i will. the u.s. supreme court will hear two cases this week dealing with gay rights. on tuesday, arguments on prop 8 and wednesday, on the federal defense of marriage act. this event marks the 48th anniversary of the alabama march led by martin luther king jr. community college students will have more options. they will more than double the course offerings this summer. more than 1,000 courses. many will be core classes in english, math and science. ccsf, officials say the change will deal with one of the criticisms from the state's accreditation board enrollment management. >> what a wonderful weekend as far as the weather is concerned. are we going to have more of that to come? >> no. we actually have a change. good morning to you. happy monday.

that's because the off ramp is still closed to overnight construction. don't plan on using that mission connected just yet. warren, the exit there is okay. you can use the auto mall parkway. durham connecting you between 680 and 880. that's why they are registering slow. don't try to use that right now because of the continued road work. south bay, things are working pretty nicely. south 880 slows a little slowing down towards 280. no crashes, incidents or real activity. i'll check on why those are slow. a live look outside shows you the bay bridge toll plaza. no lights. we have your road crews upper and lower deck. you are only losing about one lane. >> very good. we are going to talk about the golden gate bridge set to go cashless in two days. the new all electronic to youing system will go into effect on wednesday. bridges are making last-minute changes to make sure drivers are prepared as possible.

crews will use a crane to hoist a 27-foot sign on top of the toll plaza that will read, do not stop. automatic automatic towing. during the first day, employees will stand near the toll booth to wave traffic through. a new tunnel will open. the official ribbon cutting for the grand opening happens just a few hours from now. crews will still have a little work to do after that. they will have to divert traffic off the rolled route. the tunnel and bridge bypass will be open to drivers. the new road replaces the edge of the cliff stretch that connects pacifica and half moon bay. it should be ready to use tonight or early tomorrow morning. >> in celebration of the opening of the twin tunnels, the half moon bay brewing company is unveiling a new bear. it has 6.6% alcohol content references the number widely associated with the satanic

about a mile to help a car crash that killed her father after 2:30 sunday morning on a rural stretch of the sierra highway in acton. they say the girl walked through rugged terrain and wondered into a commuter rail station and told a security guard she had been involved in an auto accident. responding officers found the man in his 30s had been killed. alcohol may have played a role in that crash. >> new this morning, u.s. secretary of state john kerry is in afghanistan today on an unannounced visit to see president hamid karzai. his visit coincides with the handover of a u.s.-controlled prison to the afghan government. the facility at bagram military base is the only prison under u.s. control. after lengthy negotiations, u.s. officials reached a deal to transfer control of the prison while ensuring dangerous prisoners would not be released it is spiritual leader that is on his way to southern

the women's winner says she wasn't sure she was going to run until this weekend. while the winner of the men's marathon says he is disappointed with himself. he has previously run the 26.2 miles 10 minutes faster than winning time. >> he finished at 2:37 and he is disappointed. >> don't be too hard on him. i crossed the golden gate bridge and there are signs everywhere alerting drivers that the electronic system is going to change. >> we will talk about that at the end of the report here. that's a great bit of information that the changes are going on tomorrow. throughout the week, the adjustment will be for another week or two. look ago at the south bay, down in the lower right-hand corner, flashing lights, the connector still closed from south 280 on to 880. approaching the area, we will look at the map. a great deal of red and yellow in boent directions as you are

approaching the 280 interchange with 880. crews that are stopped on the side slowly rolling through the area as they are starting to get ready to clear some of the crews. that's what's messing up the data right there at the interchange. that's why you have me as well to sort that out. no problems for the area. the rest of the south bay moves nicely. your northbound route on southbound 101, a live camera, no problems over there either. we will look out across the bay. the san mateo bridge and an earlier overnight wind advisory. it gets kind of gusty here and then, maybe not. we are looking at a nice, clear shot. christina talks about the change in the weather. the east shore freeway, very smooth. a long shot. you see at the bottom. folks building out of richmond. no real slowing off of highway 4 as you merge with the richmond, san rafael bridge. the golden gate bridge. no problem with fog.

construction on the north side. as you are crossing the toll plaza, you may see some change delaying the configuration. the painting on the lanes in preparation for the no metering, no toll takers. that will be an issue. the real change is when the poll takers go away and it is all lec chronic. be prepared for folks to slow down even though they don't have to. watch out, drive defensively and as a cautionary tail, be careful going through the golden gate bridge. back to you. it is 4:55. a polar bear cub who lost his mother is getting a temporary new home. this is cali, a three to four--month-old cub at the anchorage zoo. his mother was killed by a hunter earlier this month in alaska. they expect to transport the baby bear to the buffalo zoo in new york to join the zoo's own cub, luna. the st. louis zoo is also being considered -- the st. louis zoo

to california's proposition 8 which defines marriage as being between one man and one woman. that challenge will be heard tomorrow. people have already been camping outside the supreme court for days. back in 2004, then mayor of san francisco, gavin newsom, ordered city officials to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. six months later, the state supreme court invalidated same-sex unions. nearly four years later, the same state supreme court overturned california's ban on same-sex marriage but that was short-lived as voters passed proposition eight. tomorrow, supporters and opponents of same-sex marriage will have different questions for the high court. >> such a fundamental right of liberty. that right is already established. the only question is, are you going to deprive gays and rest bee alesbians of their rights? >> the issue is do we have a
